{Home Office} Gray Grid

I love getting a call to work on a blank canvas! The ideas and possibilities seem endless when clients show me an empty room and ask me to transform it! For this client, he needed help with his home office.

Here are some before pictures:

He had a lot of needs for the space, and a list of things he wanted to incorporate in the design:

  • Adjustable Standing Desk
  • Gaming/Sports entertainment area
  • Lots of Storage/Cabinets for gear
  • Shelves and Frames to display photography
  • Masculine vibe

So I got to work designing! I decided to go with a gray grid on the window wall to add some depth to the space and create a masculine custom detail. I chose dark gray (black-out) floor-to-ceiling curtains to soften the wall and provide privacy when needed.

To solve his storage needs, I went with a dark wood Filing Storage Unit. This would discreetly hold all his gear and provide ample storage for office supplies.

For the entertainment center area I wanted to add wood shiplap to warm the space and break-up all the grays and dark furniture. I stained it a dark espresso and placed a modern low-profile unit below to house the TV consoles.

After that is was time for the finishing touches. I put a gallery wall up to display his photography and incorporated some framed drawings done by his grandpa.

A couple sets of strategically placed picture ledges hide the electrical wall plates from when we moved the outlet to the shiplap TV wall .

A warm brown leather loveseat provided seating for the entertainment area. I went with a low profile couch to no obstruct the window & leather to incorporate the brown tones of the wood shiplap wall. The couch nestled perfectly in the space and was anchored by a geometric low-plush area rug. I added a custom made foot stool, stained it the same color as the shiplap and covered in a durable dark gray fabric . I also made a pillow in the same fabric and added a throw blanket (client owned) to softened the look.

The client was happy with the end result and I had so much fun tackling this project. Looking forward to the next one..
