{Home Office} Kottong Homestead
I spend a LOT of time in my home office every week but when we moved in, it was low on the priority to finish. It was functional and that is all I needed for the time being. Luckily, I had my design concept drawn up before we even started building our house… so the accent pieces, furniture and lighting were all there when it came time to re-do (rather: do for the first time) my Home Office!

Here are a couple of BEFORE shots:

After being settled in, the one thing that I knew I needed in my home office was STORAGE! I have tons of office supplies that needed a home – a home that was out of sight! I also LOVE books – for whatever reason, I love to be surrounded by them… there is just something comforting and calming about that to me… and since this is the place I spend most my weekdays, it was a must to have a place to display a few. And lastly, I have a wireless printer that took up entirely too much space on my desk, so I decided to incorporate a nook for the printer. Below is the design I ended up drawing. I lucked out and was able to switch the cabinets on the left for the next size up (less trim work!), but other than that – we stuck to this game plan:

Here are a few progress pics of the built-in process:
We used stock cabinets for the lower & uppers
When we first moved into our house I painted my office a light blue because I was worried about going too dark. After awhile though, I regretted not taking that risk and going with the color I REALLY wanted. So adding the built-ins gave me the perfect opportunity to right that “wrong”! I went with the color I originally wanted: SW 7602 Indigo Batik. It took three coats on the walls, two on the ceiling, and two on the built-ins… 2 gallons and 1 quart later… but so worth it!

I primed the cabinets with a deep base primer before spraying them the same color as the walls and ceiling. My assistant, Riley was my shadow through the whole process (and may have had a few spots of blue on her when everything was said and done!)

At this point I was SO excited with how things were turning out and could not wait to get started on the finishing touches!! First up was installing the crown, adding cabinet doors & cabinet hardware and then slowly moving all the furniture back in!
Cabinet Doors & Hardware On Printer Fit Perfectly – We drilled a hole in the cedar top to run the power cord to the outlet in the cabinet! Once all the cream furniture was exposed the room really brightened up! Installing the double layered crown molding! I couldn’t resist adding my books ASAP!
And here is how it turned out. I could not be happier with it. I spend 40+ hours a week in this room – and once we completed it I kept thinking to myself “why didn’t I do this earlier?!”

Excited to get working on the next project! Stay tuned.. …
