{Stained Shiplap} Master Bedroom

Our bedroom was lacking some major character in the house and I finally convinced my husband that it was “time” to update. The first thing that had to go was the blue-gray walls and contrasting taupe ceiling. I did not stray far from the original color, just chose a little warmer gray (SW Mindful Gray) and this time continued the wall color onto the ceiling for a more cohesive look. I bought the more expensive paint & primer and to my surprise it covered up the tree silhouettes I had done on one of the walls in just ONE coat. Definitely worth the extra $$.

.

Now that the walls were painted it was time to add the fun part: The focal point wood wall!! We bought unfinished (tongue and grove) wood boards from Lowe’s. We located the studs and marked the walls with a chalk line for easy install. Then we figured out the pattern we wanted to hang the wood (to avoid too many cuts and repeating seems). It took a little while to get that process going, but once we figured it out, we were rocking & rolling.

Once we finished hanging the boards it was time to stain! I used 3 different stains to create about 4 or 5 different combinations.

I knew that I was putting a large upholstered headboard in the middle of the wall, so I “tested” the stain colors on that area of the wall just in case they didn’t turn out. Staining was a piece of cake and it was so cool to see the wood transform!

With the wood being more of a masculine look I made an upholstered headboard to soften it up. I chose a dark gray color for the material and added silver upholstery nailhead trim for a little more detail. (I did this before I knew nailhead trim came in strips! So each and EVERY one of those nailheads was hammered in by your’s truly!!) It was a time consuming process, but the finished look was exactly what I was going for!

After the headboard was up then came the finishing touches.

This bedroom quickly became one of my favorite rooms in the house!
